Markup Tools

Using the Markup Tool for Collaborative Feedback

The Markup Tool is essential for direct, contextual collaboration on your 3D models within the Web Dashboard. This guide will show you how to create new markups, tag teammates for notifications, add notes, and track the status of design feedback directly within the model viewer.

Markups are notes you anchor directly to a specific view of your model to provide contextual feedback.

  1. Open your 3D model in the Web Dashboard viewer.
  2. Click the Markup Tool icon in the bottom tool bar.
  3. Click somewhere on the model to anchor the new markup and open the text editor.

  1. Enter your note and use the text editing options to format it as needed. The editor includes options for bold, italic, underline, strike through, bulleted list, numbered list, block quotes, hyperlinks, and superscript.
  2. To add a visual annotation, use the Red line feature to draw directly on the model, or use the measurement function to take precise measurements to specify dimensions.

Collaborating and Contextualizing

The Markup Tool enables you to loop in teammates and attach supporting documents directly to your feedback.

  1. Notify a Teammate: In the text field, use the At symbol (@) followed by a team member’s name to send a direct notification. Using the @ symbol automatically sends the tagged user an email notification that includes a hyperlink back to the exact view of the model and the markup you created.
  2. Attach Documents: You can attach supporting files, such as a material specification PDF, a change-request email, or any other necessary documentation.
  3. Apply Tags: Use tags (e.g., change order, critical, review) to categorize the markup for easier tracking and filtering across the project.
  4. Send the Markup: Once complete, send the markup to save it and trigger any notifications.

Tracking and Managing Markups

You can manage the status of feedback and review the entire history of all markups for a project.

  1. Add Replies: Use the reply function to continue the conversation on an existing markup. You can tag multiple users in your reply using the At symbol (@).
  2. Update Status: Change the status of the markup using the status options: pending, in progress, or closed. This helps your team track the completion of the requested feedback or task.
  3. View All Markups: Expand the markups table to see the full list of all markups for the current project. You can filter this list by various criteria, including the status.

  1. Review History: Click on any past markup in the list to automatically rotate the model back to the exact view and orientation that was captured when the markup was originally made. This is perfect for reviewing contextual red line annotations.
  2. Share and Edit: You can click the options to get a copy of a link directly to a specific markup for sharing outside of Sibe, edit the markup's content, manage the tags to add or remove them, or delete the markup entirely.

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • The Markup Tool provides a single, centralized location for all project communication, preventing important feedback from being lost in Slack, email, or other chat platforms.
  • You can tag multiple users in both the initial markup and in any replies. There is no limit to the number of users you can tag.
  • Use the status filter in the expanded markups table to quickly check the progress of tasks assigned to you or your team.
