Install the Sibe add-in for SolidWorks

You can have the Sibe add-in running in SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD with one setting to think about, and two housekeeping steps that stop most install problems before they start.

Before you start

• Windows, with SolidWorks installed and closed
• Administrative privileges on the machine — the installer raises a Windows User Account Control prompt

Clear the decks first

Most failed installs are leftovers from an earlier one.

1. Open C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Temp. If you cannot see it, turn on View → Show → Hidden items in File Explorer.
2. Press Ctrl+A, then Shift+Delete. Skip anything Windows says is in use.
3. Restart the machine.

Install the add-in

1. Sign in to your Sibe workspace and click Add-in in the left sidebar.
2. Click Download the SolidWorks add-in.
3. Open the downloaded file and click Yes at the Windows User Account Control prompt.
4. Click Next.
5. Read and accept the license agreement, then Next.
6. Keep the default install location, or change it if you need to.
7. Click Install, then Close.
8. Restart once more so SolidWorks picks the add-in up.

Check it worked

Open SolidWorks and look under Tools → Add-Ins. Sibe appears in the list. Select it under Active Add-ins and under Start Up, so it loads every time.

Then open the Sibe panel in the right-hand task pane and set it up: sign in, pick your workspace, choose your local cache folder. The next article, Complete the Setup Guide, picks up from there.

Two rules for the local cache folder

• Keep the path short and near the root of C:, for example C:\SibeCache. Windows caps a full file path at 260 characters and files past that will not open.
• Never put it inside OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox. Two things syncing the same files fight each other.

Troubleshooting

Sibe isn't in Tools → Add-Ins.
Restart the machine and look again. If it is still missing, run the installation through a second time.

It's listed but doesn't load.
Both boxes need selecting — Active Add-ins and Start Up.

The installer won't run.
Approve the User Account Control prompt when it appears. If your IT team locks that down, send them this article and the security overview.

Antivirus blocks the download or the install.
Whitelist the installer and the domains below.

Domains to whitelist — all HTTPS on port 443:

• sibe.io
• app.sibe.io
• scm.app.sibe.io
• api.app.sibe.io

Common questions

Where do I download the add-in?
Sign in to your Sibe workspace, click Add-in in the left sidebar, and click Download the SolidWorks add-in. There is no separate download page.

Why clear the temp folder first?
It clears out partial files from earlier installs so the installer starts clean.

Can I change where it installs?
Yes. The install location is the only setting in the installer. The default works for most people.

Do I have to restart afterward?
Yes. Restart once more after the install.

Can I install it on several machines at once?
Yes. Ask support for the silent install.
