Releases: revisions and approvals

You can take an assembly and everything under it from In Progress to an approved revision in one pass, with the approver and the notes recorded against it.

Release an assembly

1. Select the assembly and create a release candidate.
2. Review every component listed with its current version and state.
3. Set the revision on the parts that are changing.
4. Add the approver.
5. Write the release notes.
6. The approver reviews, then approves or rejects.

The released revision shows against the files in the vault and on the model.

You can also select multiple files and release them in one pass, and transition released files back to In Progress when work restarts.

What is a release candidate?
A set of files proposed for release together, with their revisions and an approver, before anything is final.

Can I release a whole assembly at once?
Yes. Creating a release from the assembly brings its components in with it.

Who approves a release?
Whoever you add as approver.

Where do release notes go?
On the release itself, so the reason for the revision sits with the files rather than in someone's inbox.

Can I see the release state without opening a file?
Yes. The Workflow State column in the file list shows it — In Progress, Under Review or Released — and Revision shows the letter once it is Released. The state also appears on the model.
